Your tutor is like your school teacher. The only difference is that you meet your tutor at home and not in school. Thus, it is important that you treat your tutor properly. It is not a license for you to ignore your tutor just because he is in your territory, your home.
Treat your tutor like your school teacher. Every time you meet him or her, be polite. Greet your tutor with a “Good Morning” or “Good Afternoon” and call him or her “Sir” or “Ma’am”. Your tutor is a person of authority. She deserves to be respected.
Moreover, you have to pay attention to what he or she is saying. Lend your ears. Every word, phrase, or sentence your tutors utters is important for your academic performance. Let’s suppose that you are being tutored on the different types of scholarly papers. He or she may state those types including dissertation or thesis and your tutor may ask you afterwards to reiterate what he or she has said. If you listened to what he has discussed, you can immediately answer. But if not, you will be left speechless.
Treat your tutor like your parent. Do not be rude or be fond of arguing with your tutor. If there is something you disagree with any of his lectures or statements, you can tell state your point in a gentle and professional manner. Always think before you speak.
Treat your tutor like your friend. When you are with your friend, you always feel comfortable and you feel free to ask questions. If you will consider your tutor as your friend, you will no longer feel shy in asking questions especially when you cannot understand a certain topic.
Your tutor is also a human like you. Though your parents paid for his or her services, it does not mean that you can be rude to your tutor. Always remember the Golden Rule, “One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself.”
