How To Write A Persuasive Essay

American broadcast journalist Edward Murrow said, “To be PERSUASIVE, we must be believable; to be BELIEVABLE, we must be CREDIBLE; credible, we must be TRUTHFUL.”

This simple statement has to be our guiding principle every time we write a persuasive essay. Writing such is like being a lawyer defending his client inside the courtroom. You have the big responsibility of taking a stand and defending it all the way. You need to build strong arguments and persuade people to believe in you.

To persuade or to convince- this is your ultimate goal in writing a persuasive essay. If you have not achieved this, then you definitely failed.

Here are some basic steps in writing a persuasive essay.

1. Determine your main thought/idea. Be specific on your purpose and stick to your stand.

2. Know your audience. To come up with an effective persuasive essay, you need to consider your audience. Will you be writing for adults, teens, or professionals? Do you have the same language game?

3. Clearly state your arguments. You have to be very clear with your arguments and proposition or else you will fail to deliver your message to your audience.

Imagine yourself selling a product. Your main objective is to have someone buy it. Just like in writing a persuasive essay, you sell your ideas and your target is to have someone believe them.

Time Management Tips for Dissertation Writing

Do you think that an entire school year is enough to write and complete your dissertation?

Well, it could be possible but only with good time management strategies; otherwise, you may be needing another year to finish it.

Benjamin Franklin said, You delay, but time will not.”

If you think you can procrastinate and write your dissertation later, you would definitely end up cramming and cramming for it is not a good thing. Hence, you need to learn time management skills.

“I must govern the clock not be governed by it.” You have to remember this always.

Manage and control time; it should not be the other way around. Once you have learned how to manage time, you will be able to increase your productivity. Increased productivity is a benefit for your dissertation making. This simply means that you are getting efficient and productive in completing it.

Prioritizing- this is the main key to time management. You should learn how to prioritize tasks and goals. Hence, the very first thing that you should do in writing your paper is to create a list of all the tasks needed in doing a dissertation. Once you are done with this, make another list of actions which need to be made under it. Doing this will help you determine which among the tasks are needed to be prioritized. Is it conducting a research or looking for a thesis advisor?

The next thing to do is to plan a schedule. Make a timetable. It can be monthly, weekly, or daily- whichever is the most favorable to you. You need to do this so that you will not forget your deadlines and you will always be reminded of your tasks.

As you write your dissertation, it is best to always visit or consult your advisor. Let him or her check your work. Keep him/her informed about the status of your paper. Is your topic already approved? If not, what’s needed to be done? Discuss important things with your advisor. The latter’s job is to guide and direct you.

Time management is not only about spending wisely of your time; it is also about learning how to say “no” to others. Just imagine the tons of work you have to do for your dissertation but you keep on saying “yes” to your friends- to accompany them to the mall or helping them in their projects. If one of your friends invited you for a drink or for a movie, check your schedule first. If you still have deadlines to beat, then tell your friend right away that you can’t go because you are working on your dissertation. Saying “no” does not mean you don’t like to go with your friend. This only shows that you know how to prioritize.

Start learning and practicing time management. Just as what Lord Chesterfield said, Know the true value of time; snatch, seize, and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no laziness, no procrastination; Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.”

Enjoy writing!

5 Tips on How To Lessen Expenses in Writing Your Dissertation

Given the high and expensive cost of college tuition, students must take measures to lessen school expenses without sacrificing anything. May it be four or five years in college, it is a good idea to find ways on how to be budget conscious especially when you are writing your dissertation.

While dissertation writing can be very extensive and costly because you have to conduct a research, an interview, or survey, there are various ways to lessen expenses. Here are 5 tips and recommendations to moderate or eventually cut back your school expenses.

  • Apply for Scholarships
Many colleges offer scholarship programs that help financially challenged but deserving and qualified students. To be given such scholarship, you may need to fulfill some requirements and meet particular criteria. For instance, you may need to have high grades or excel in a certain subject or sports. As much as possible, explore all of your aid options. Seek every financial assistance that is available.
  • Minimize all Unnecessary Living Expenses
As much as possible, spend only on the things you need the most. Be conscious on what you buy. Learn to prioritize. Likewise, if you are fond of traveling, try to reduce travel time and plans. Instead of spending your money on booking flights, just try to save it.
  • Do Not Buy New Book or Just Do Not Overspend
Visit your school library and check the book you need for writing a dissertation. If it is available, borrow it. In case the book is not available, try to go to book sale, borrow from your friend, or search online. Nowadays, you can easily access books, journals, or other materials on the Internet. Some of those can even be downloaded.
  • Get a Part-Time Job
If your schedule permits, try to have a part-time job. Look for jobs online or apply as a barista in a nearby coffee shop.
  • Practice other Cost-Cutting Measures
College is really expensive unless you are in a public or state school. Still, practice staying on budget. In case you have a credit card, avoid it for now. Credit cards are very tempting and when fall into this temptation, this may result to unnecessary debt. Should you have your own car, try not to use it for awhile. Take the public transportation so that you can save your transportation and gas expenses.

Third, practice. A few days before the defense, it will be good for you to practice your presentation- from the Powerpoint to the delivery of your report. Usually, the defense is time-limited; thus, you only have to tell the most important facts and details.

Fourth, prepare for your outfit. Your attire may not be the most important in your defense but your professors will be impressed if they will see you very professional.

Last but not the least,  have enough rest or sleep before the day of defense. It is essential that you feel well and you do not have any illness or else it will be difficult for you to focus or speak if you are experiencing cold, flu, or any other types of illness.

Aforementioned are simple tips on how to prepare for your dissertation defense. Remember all of these and you will never ever get out of focus during the actual defense. Always remember that if you really want to enter the world of dissertation writing services, you have to pass your college dissertation.

Is there Such a Thing as Excessive Tutoring?

There are 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 30 days a month. How much of your time is spent on studying?

Parents and teachers are impressed when they see students studying hard and are seriously dedicated to do well in school. As a matter of fact, parents even hire a private tutor to help their kids improve and grow more. But here’s what some parents fail to realize- because of their eagerness to help their children be educated, sometimes, they do not see see that their kids are already burnout because of too much studying and tutoring.

What happens when the child gets burnout?

  • Larry Fong, a Calgary psychologist, tells that when a child gets burnout, it means that the child loses everything interest in everything. In addition, Fong recommended that parents must ease off by cancelling tutoring or other school-related activities and let their kids have a balanced life- play and study.
  • Every student especially the young ones need a balanced life. If there’s a time for books, there must be also a time for toys and games. The college students who are now into writing dissertation also needs a healthy and balanced life. Writing a dissertation is a serious matter yet the students’ health are more important.
  • For parents, try not to do excessive things to your child. Let them relax, unwind, and play. And for all the students, have a break. Do not be too hard on yourself.

How to Properly Treat a Tutor

Your tutor is like your school teacher. The only difference is that you meet your tutor at home and  not in school. Thus, it is important that you treat your tutor properly. It is not a license for you to ignore your tutor just because he is in your territory, your home.

Treat your tutor like your school teacher. Every time you meet him or her, be polite. Greet your tutor with a “Good Morning” or “Good Afternoon” and call him or her “Sir” or “Ma’am”. Your tutor is a person of authority. She deserves to be respected.

Moreover, you have to pay attention to what he or she is saying. Lend your ears. Every word, phrase, or sentence your tutors utters is important for your academic performance. Let’s suppose that you are being tutored on the different types of scholarly papers. He or she may state those types including dissertation or thesis and your tutor may ask you afterwards to reiterate what he or she has said. If you listened to what he has discussed, you can immediately answer. But if not, you will be left speechless.

Treat your tutor like your parent. Do not be rude or be fond of arguing with your tutor. If there is something you disagree with any of his lectures or statements, you can tell state your point in a gentle and professional manner. Always think before you speak.

Treat your tutor like your friend. When you are with your friend, you always feel comfortable and you feel free to ask questions. If you will consider your tutor as your friend, you will no longer feel shy in asking questions especially when you cannot understand a certain topic.

Your tutor is also a human like you. Though your parents paid for his or her services, it does not mean that you can be rude to your tutor. Always remember the Golden Rule, One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself.”

College Professors Fear Online Education Growth

The rise of online education is evident as it has spread like fire on college campuses. Many students have liked it because of its convenience and flexibility. But, there are people who are not favor of it and even fear it. These people are no other than the professors.

Instead of getting excited of this modern method of education, professors tend to be filled more with fear. Based on a report which has surveyed approximately 4,500 faculty members, it was found out that more than half of them are fearful of the growth of online education.

Here are the other sentiments and fears of college instructors/professors:

  • Online education may not just supplement instructors but eventually replace them.
  • Online courses provides inferior learning to students compared to traditional courses.
  • Online courses may harm the quality of university education.
College instructors/professors do not deny the fact that technology is already a necessity but still they feel anxious and worried of what could possibly happened in the future. The education of the students here is at risk- from learning the basics, solving problems, to dissertation writing- and unlike the traditional classroom setting, online education has not yet fully proven its effectiveness.

The Trouble With Online Education

The popularity of online education among students has spread and it continues to grow. But despite its worldwide recognition, it still has problems, drawbacks, and negative feedbacks.

If you haven’t still resorted to online education for your children, then inform yourself of the possible problems your kids will encounter and see if online education is right for them.

Online education, e-learning, digital education- these terms may sound pretty good but it is not enough that you go with the flow or join the bandwagon. You must know its pros and cons.

Revealing The Other Side of Online Education

In online education, there is limited interaction with the professor

Unlike the traditional classroom setting, you just use Skype or an instant messenger to communicate with your professor. There is no classroom, board, marker, chalk, and other materials. You do not even have a classmate. It is only you and your professor. What’s greatly lacking in this type of teaching is the development of a relationship which can lead to proper guidance.

In online education, there is an absence of social interaction.

As mentioned earlier, there are no classmates to talk with. It is just you and your instructor. There are no new people to befriend or at least become your acquaintances. You will never have a partner when it is time to make your dissertation writing service.

In online education, you have to be tech-savvy.

If you are the type of person who does not even know how to open a computer or a laptop, then resorting to online education may be a problem to you. Basically, students are required to know and learn the different online education programs available on the Net. The instructor may train you but if you really struggle on dealing with it, then it can give you headache.

In online education, computer issues may arise.

It is necessary that you have an Internet connection because if you lose it, you will also lose your connection with your online instructor.

This is the other side of online education. The question now is this, “Are you willing to embrace online education despite its drawbacks?”

How to Make a Good Dissertation Title

What’s in a title? If it is good, people might keep on reading the whole content. But if it is not, the article or other literary pieces will be just ignored.

That’s why it is very important that when you are making a dissertation, you have to make a good title. Your title is like your headline. It must be captivating, attractive, and attention-grabbing.

How can you say that a dissertation title is good?

A good title shows the importance of your dissertation. Samples of good titles are the following:

  • An Investigation into the impact of 'Super Public Living' upon the Social Reality
  • The Emerging American Workplace and the Skills Needed by Young People for Successful Future Employability
  • Form Follows Concept: Generation of Architectural Concepts
  • 'Horror and Society: Reflecting or Exploiting our Fears?'

In creating your title, you have to come up with a compelling and captivating one. The title is like a bait. If it looks attractive, readers will possibly look at it and read it. Likewise, you have to make your title short and relevant to the objectives of your paper.

People have short attention span. Thus, it is important that your title will grab one’s attention. If not, it might be only you, your adviser, or your family who will read your dissertation.

Planning Your Dissertation Ahead of Time

Plan your dissertation not tomorrow but now. Plan ahead of time or else time will control you.

Dissertation making is a long process and it needs enough time for it to be completed. You can’t cram or write it overnight. If you do that, you will end up with a trash.

Work on your dissertations as soon as possible. If your professor has already told the class to prepare your dissertation topics, do it. Identify your topic. Actually, choosing your topic is the hardest thing to do. With lots of possible topics, you have to choose which one is the best. You can choose your topics based on news items, controversies, lecture notes, or something you have always thought about. Once you have identified your topic, conduct preliminary research. Determine if your topic is feasible and realistic. Do not be too ambitious.

If your professor or adviser has agreed to your topic, it is time to plan your dissertation into three main parts namely introduction, main body, and conclusion.

  • The introduction, just like any other introduction, informs the readers of what is your dissertation all about, the methodologies you have used and the definition of terms used if necessary.

  • The main body is clearly the heart of your dissertation. Discuss your topic properly. State evidence, not just arguments. Write a substantial body.

  • The conclusion is the summary of your entire dissertation. In your conclusion, there should be no more questions. All doubts and inquiries must be answered.

Remember to plan ahead. If you fail to plan, then expect your failure.
