How to Make a Good Dissertation Title

What’s in a title? If it is good, people might keep on reading the whole content. But if it is not, the article or other literary pieces will be just ignored.

That’s why it is very important that when you are making a dissertation, you have to make a good title. Your title is like your headline. It must be captivating, attractive, and attention-grabbing.

How can you say that a dissertation title is good?

A good title shows the importance of your dissertation. Samples of good titles are the following:

  • An Investigation into the impact of 'Super Public Living' upon the Social Reality
  • The Emerging American Workplace and the Skills Needed by Young People for Successful Future Employability
  • Form Follows Concept: Generation of Architectural Concepts
  • 'Horror and Society: Reflecting or Exploiting our Fears?'

In creating your title, you have to come up with a compelling and captivating one. The title is like a bait. If it looks attractive, readers will possibly look at it and read it. Likewise, you have to make your title short and relevant to the objectives of your paper.

People have short attention span. Thus, it is important that your title will grab one’s attention. If not, it might be only you, your adviser, or your family who will read your dissertation.

Planning Your Dissertation Ahead of Time

Plan your dissertation not tomorrow but now. Plan ahead of time or else time will control you.

Dissertation making is a long process and it needs enough time for it to be completed. You can’t cram or write it overnight. If you do that, you will end up with a trash.

Work on your dissertations as soon as possible. If your professor has already told the class to prepare your dissertation topics, do it. Identify your topic. Actually, choosing your topic is the hardest thing to do. With lots of possible topics, you have to choose which one is the best. You can choose your topics based on news items, controversies, lecture notes, or something you have always thought about. Once you have identified your topic, conduct preliminary research. Determine if your topic is feasible and realistic. Do not be too ambitious.

If your professor or adviser has agreed to your topic, it is time to plan your dissertation into three main parts namely introduction, main body, and conclusion.

  • The introduction, just like any other introduction, informs the readers of what is your dissertation all about, the methodologies you have used and the definition of terms used if necessary.

  • The main body is clearly the heart of your dissertation. Discuss your topic properly. State evidence, not just arguments. Write a substantial body.

  • The conclusion is the summary of your entire dissertation. In your conclusion, there should be no more questions. All doubts and inquiries must be answered.

Remember to plan ahead. If you fail to plan, then expect your failure.

Ways to Impress Your College Professor

Don’t hate professors. Instead, impress and love them.

Nothing good will happen to you if you will just hate your professors for being so strict. Professors are just doing their jobs so you must do your part too.

Do not waste your time ranting or complaining. Instead, think of the ways on how to impress your professors.

  • The first thing that you have to do is to attend on the first day of the class. Do not try to miss it. It is one of the most important days in your student life. Making it on your first day leaves a good first impression. If you are absent on the very first day, you professor will think that you do not have an interest on his class.
  • Next is to be punctual always. Do not be a habitual late student. Your professor may feel insulted for being like that. Just imagine the disturbance you may make when you enter the classroom while your professor is lecturing or your classmate is reciting.
  • The third thing to do is to follow directions. You have to respond properly to what your professor demands from you. Let’s say he has assigned you to write an essay and he has created guidelines like multiple spacing, Calibri font style, 11 font size, etc. Do all of these and your professor will be impressed.
  • Of course, you have to do well in class recitation and exams. Show to the class that you have really studied the lesson and learned from the lectures of your professor.

Your success in college depends on your academic performance. But remember that your professor’s evaluation can influence your college life.

How to Impress a Classmate

Is there any person in your class who you want to know better? Is there anyone of your classmates who you want to befriend and spend most of your time with him or her? Perhaps, you have already thought of various ideas to impress that person. But is it really needed to impress that person or you just needed to develop your qualities which will leave an impression to your classmates the natural way.

Just be yourself. Believe in yourself and be confident. Do not be arrogant. Do not be pretentious. There is a thin line between arrogance and confidence. When you are arrogant, you pretend to know something you do not know or be someone whom you are not. If you are confident, there is no pretension, only courage to speak out what’s right. Do not be a copycat for this will not impress your classmates. Your uniqueness can be attractive and impressive.

Be intelligent in your actions and words. Being intelligent does not only mean that you get perfect scores in exam, it also means being responsible in actions and words. You can flaunt your intelligence without being boastful. Just be simple, studious, do your homework, recite in class, and participate in school activities.

Be good. Intelligence is useless if you have a cruel heart. Be good to your classmates. If some of your classmates find it hard to study Algebra or they are not that good in writing dissertations, help them and impart your knowledge.

Be yourself. Be intelligent. Be good. Do all of these and you will certainly impress your classmates.
